Underwater Treadmill & Rehabilitation

 "Splash N' Dash"
Greens Fork Animal Hospital employs the most recent technologies and has a state-of-the-art underwater treadmill to offer a rehabilitation and hydro-therapeutic service for all pets.  Pets who have recently undergone orthopedic surgery, are in need of ongoing conditioning, weight loss, exercise regimen, arthritis, and much more can benefit from the use of the under water treadmill.

The treadmill is designed specifically for veterinary application.  The water level and speed can be adjusted to accommodate pets from the teacup to giant breeds.  This activity occurs under constant supervision with ongoing monitoring of the pet's physical and emotional response.

   Benefits of Hydrotherapy for Animals
  • Reduces load on painful or healing structures so that exercise can commence earlier with less muscle activation required and less load on limbs.
  • Provides additional support to limbs, reducing likelihood of injury to muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
  • Allows exercise to continue while land-based exercise is restricted or contraindicated.
  • Eases performance of difficult activities and movements through the force of buoyancy.
  • Water provides more resistance/drag than air; great for strengthening and conditioning.
  • Prevents atrophy or wasting away of muscle.
  • Increases muscle mass and strength.
  • Increases cardiovascular fitness and endurance.
  • Increases joint range of motion, reduces stiffness.
  • Increases soft-tissue extensibility.
  • Reduces muscle spasm and cramping.
  • Increases tone in weakened body parts.
  • Allows gradual progression and return towards more normal function.
  • Assists in management of edema and swelling due to water pressure.
  • Provides relaxation.
  • Reduces pain in joints with degenerative joint disease.
  • Increases circulation and assists in promotion of healing.
