Feeding Instructions
It is important to start out with small amounts when feeding a bland diet – depending on your patient’s size this could be anywhere from a tablespoon to ½ cup of the mixture. After feeding a small amount, wait at least 30 minutes prior to offering more food to make sure your pet’s stomach can handle it. If doing well, feed 4-5 times daily until the vomiting/diarrhea improves. Once there has been no vomiting/diarrhea for at least 3 days, slowly start transitioning to the regular diet over 5-7 days. If long term home cooking is desired, visit balanceit.com for an appropriate recipe.
For Cats:
⦁ 2 cups meat (chicken, turkey, or white fish)
⦁ 2 chicken livers
⦁ 1-2 tsp butter
⦁ 2 Tbsp sweet potato
⦁ ¼ cup salad greens
⦁ Cook the meat (chicken, turkey, or white fish) and chicken livers. Make sure to drain any grease produced. Do not add any spices.
⦁ Add other ingredients and heat until cooked.
⦁ Let mixture cool to room temperature
*This mixture can also be made into treats by putting all the ingredients in a food processor and mixing well, then spreading in a 2” row on a parchment lined cookie sheet and baking for 20-25 minutes at 375 degrees. Let cool and crumble after baking.
Feeding Instructions
After allowing food to cool to room temperature, feed a small amount (1-2 Tbsp) and wait 30 minutes to make sure pet does not vomit. If pet does well, feed 3-4 small meals daily until no vomiting/diarrhea is noticed for at least 3 days. Pet can then be transitioned to their regular diet by placing the home cooked mixture and their regular diet in separate bowls next to each other.
