Testimonials
"I've had the privilege of being both a client and an employee of Dr. Osborn, and for as long as I've known her she has always stressed the importance of routine blood work. Whether it was pre-anesthetic labs before a surgery, or a senior panel as a pet ages, she constantly stressed to us and other clients the importance of what a simple blood test could reveal.
Today, I can't thank her enough for that. Her tenacity in preaching the value of preventive care has saved my dog Ranger's life.
We came in for a simple vaccination visit and to have Dr. Osborn examine a few small bumps in Ranger's skin. At his age (10 years) I know lumps and bumps are a part of the aging process, but I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes to my boy.
After his exam, Dr. Osborn and I agreed on doing some senior blood work, just to make sure everything on the inside of Ranger seemed as healthy as he did on the outside. What we discovered was anything but healthy.
After several more tests, Ranger was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism, a disease that causes calcium levels in the body to increase. This can lead to many health issues, including bladder stones (which he had also started to develop). The scariest part about this disease is that most dogs show no symptoms until the disease has taken its toll and they're already sick. If it weren't for the fact that we did preventive blood work when Ranger "seemed" healthy, we never would have known what a serious and potentially life threatening illness he had.
Long story short, the only way to correct the hyperparathyroidism and bladder stones was via surgery, which my Ranger thankfully breezed through like a champ. His recovery has also been extremely smooth, thanks to the excellent care and monitoring of Dr. Osborn, her staff and the IndyVet hospital that Dr. Osborn referred us to.
In the end, I can say with the utmost certainty that Dr. Osborn's philosophy on lab work is 100% true! As much as we love and care for our pets, they can't tell us when there is something wrong inside. We, as their "pet parents", have to take the initiative and let their bodies tell us what their voices can't. I know that without a shadow of a doubt that Ranger would not be the truly healthy pup he is today if it weren't for Dr. Osborn's philosophy on preventive blood work. I can't thank her enough for giving Ranger and me the potential for many more happy, healthy years together."
