Checklist for Your Puppy's and Adult Canine Companion's Health Care
Preventative health care will add to the quality and length of your dog's life.
The following lists our recommendations for a complete preventative health care
plan:
| Puppies - 6 - 8 weeks of age | |
| First physical exam | |
| Stool check for parasites so we can deworm appropriately | |
| Start heartworm preventative-recommended year-round | |
| Start feeding a high quality diet. We now carry Science Diet puppy foods for both small breed puppies and large breed puppies. | |
| Start flea prevention/flea treatment | |
| Start puppy classes | |
| Investigate the benefits of pet health insurance. | |
| Puppies - 3 months of age | |
| Spay or neuter. | |
| Remember - Do your part to help prevent unwanted puppies that end up euthanized later | |
| Adult Dogs - We will send you reminders when your pet is due for: | |
| Biannual physical exam | |
| Stool check (dog's habits make them prone to contracting worms). | |
| Heartworm testing/preventative - we recommend year round prevention. | |
| Unless your dog missed a month of preventative or if there is a clinical reason (such as coughing) we won't test your dog every year. | |
| Vaccinations | |
| Flea prevention/treatment - wonderful monthly products are available - just ask us! | |
| Teeth cleaning | |
| Teeth cleaning is not only to keep the breath smelling better but to prevent more serious disease such as kidney, liver, heart infections, and sinus infections/abscesses. | |
| Switch to adult maintenance diets. We offer Science Diet Canine maintenance. After 7-8 years of age, we recommend Science Diet Senior diet. | |
| Annual blood tests to detect disease early. | |
| Any Age | |
| A permanent microchip identification can be injected under the skin. Permanent identification may mean the difference between life or death for your pet. | |
| Call the National Dog Registry at 1-800-637-3647 to register your dog's identification. | |
| We are here to serve
