If your pet has developed a simple case of diarrhea without vomiting:

Allow free access to plenty of fresh water. |

Remove your pet's regular diet for 12 hours. |
|
After 12 hours, feed your pet a
bland diet. (We recommend I/d for dogs, C/d for cats, or an equal mixture of chicken baby food, cooked with rice and cottage cheese.) |

After the stool is normal, mix the bland diet with your pet's regular diet and feed this mixture for 3-4 days. |
|
Once the stool has returned to normal, go back to your pet's normal diet. |
If your pet vomits , stops eating, develops bloody diarrhea, or the diarrhea does not resolve in 2-3 days, call the office to schedule an appointment.
Your pet may be given Pepto Bismol at the dosage listed below.
Dogs 1 Tbsp. per 20# Every 6 hours Cats 1 tsp. Every 6 hours for 24 hours, then discontinue Pepto Bismol will turn the stool black.
